A New ASC is Born

In reviewing our new centers ready to come on line for 2009, I noticed that all three came from recommendations from existing partners or partnerships that have exceeded expectations. Mt Dora Surgery Center in Florida is an interesting story.

Before Dr. Samir Guru (Orthopedist) left the Hammond Clinic to move closer to his wife's family three years ago, Scott Becker recommended I call him and offer our services if his new community did not have a surgery center. I did this. 18 months later, Samir called and said he and his partner were contemplating developing an ASC. I made one trip and we had a great meeting. However, they decided not to move forward at that time. Nearly a year later, another group was contemplating a project in their community and they called me to see if they could or should join that project. We collectively decided to pass but committed ourselves to forming a group to build on land Samir's partner owned.

After several weeks of discussions, we closed the transaction with six founding members and have since added three additional members to the partnership. We have started site work and construction should commence in the next two weeks.

In order to reward our partners who help us grow our business, we started a finders' fee program many years ago. For helping us invest at least $200,000 in an ASC or hospital, we will pay the referrer a finder's fee when the deal closes (in an acquisition) or when it opens (in a development). As you talk with your colleagues, if they mention struggles with their facilities, please mention us and if we become involved we would gladly pay this finders' fee to you or your designee.
